Plating

Reid Metal Finishing

Metal plating entails subjecting a metal surface with a precise and carefully-applied chemical or electrochemical treatment that enhances certain desired properties in a metal component. At Reid Metal Finishing, we offer several different types of metal plating treatments to ensure that your metal parts remain untouched by rust and corrosion.

The benefits of metal plating

Our goal with metal plating is to increase your components’ protection against mechanical and environmental wear, humidity, and salt spray. We provide quality, precise metal plating that retains its protective properties in a wide range of temperatures and environments–an excellent benefit for applications in firearms, aerospace, and marine industries. Whether you’re looking for better electrical conductivity or increased corrosion protection, we have the equipment and the expertise to provide you with what you need.

The types of plating we offer

Metal plating comes in many different types. The best plating service depends on a part’s metal/alloy composition, size, amount, shape & surface complexity, grade, and expected operational parameters when in use.

Reid offers several different types of quality metal plating for you to choose from.

Cadmium Plating

Zinc-Nickel Plating

Electrolytic Nickel Plating

Electroless Nickel Plating

Passivation

DIFFUSE NICKEL-CADMIUM

FLUORIDE PHOSPHATE CONVERSION COATING

We also provide Passivation services to thoroughly clean components and protect them from contamination.

Proper Plating Thickness

At Reid, we take measures to ensure that your components have the right plating thickness as well. Some metal plating procedures result in a layer only a few molecules thick; practically zero-thickness on a macroscopic scale. Other plating procedures confer a measurable thickness that, when dealing with small and complex parts and surfaces, must be accounted for in the overall design and fit of the plated component. Our goal is to ensure that the plating layer is uniform and durable, avoiding internal stress and peeling, and increasing the life of your metal parts.
