PRE/POST-PLATING BAKE CAPABILITIES

Reid Metal Finishing

At Reid, we are committed to a high standard of quality. We take steps before, during, and after the plating and our other treatments  to ensure your components meet your industry’s standards. To that end, we maintain equipment that performs pre- and post-plating baking.

If needed, Pre-Plate Stress Relief can relieve stress after machining the metal part and prior to plating it. This will prevent distortion of the component’s geometry due to stress build-up during the machining process. Heavily stressed, high-hardness steel parts can crack due to the hydrogen embrittlement while they are being plated, and this process helps prevent that from happening.

Post-Plate Bake Hydrogen Embrittlement Relief would occur after plating to remove the hydrogen that was infused during the cleaning and plating processes. Small hydrogen atoms can permeate solid metals during the plating, reducing the ductility of the metal. Post-plating bake relief removes the hydrogen responsible and ensures that cracks won’t form while the component is in operation.
